Kid-friendly garden featured in Dallas Child magazine

Ever since Last Child in the Woods was published a few years ago, child advocates have worried about what author Richard Louv called 'nature-deficit' disorder: kids getting so disconnected from nature that they rarely go outside to play. The results are child obesity, attention deficits and depression. But the antidote is near at hand. Pick up the latest issue of Dallas Child and see how the Cohn-Rolston home in Lakewood facilitates imaginative play. The article features Dave's wife, Julie Cohn, talking about how daughter Mila and her friends use the backyard and house to make up games, run around and just be kids.

The garden is full of winding paths that encourage the children (and dogs) to run in circles, play hide and seek in secret niches, and roll down grassy slopes. Fountains, benches and a wading pool make places to stop and sit or play or read. And to top it off, a green roof covers the screened porch, right outside Mila's bedroom window!
